MUTAL BURHONOV

(1916-2002)

The life and creative work of Mutal (Mutavakkil) Burhonov, author of the music of the state anthem of the Republic of Uzbekistan, people’s artist of Uzbekistan, winner of the state awards named after Hamza and Berdakh, is closely related to the history of the development of modern Uzbek art. This rare talent made our country known to the world with its harmonious and attractive works. All his works are distinguished by originality, nationality.

Mutal Burhonov was born on May 5, 1916 in Bukhara City in Bazar nav, Kavshi olak neighborhood (now Pushkin Street, at 24) to muzainiddin Burhonov, mudarr of madrasa. One of the three uncles of The Thinker, Perfekil Burhonov, was an activist of the Bukharan jadidist movement. M. who fell on the head of the harsh tests of life.Burhonov studied in childhood and adolescence, first in old and then in new schools. Since childhood, he was interested and fond of music. He learned to play the Tanbur first from his uncle Perfekil Burhonov, then from the famous tanburist father Ghiyos Abdughani. After graduation, M.Burhonov worked in Tashkent in 1932-35 in the drama theaters named after Hamza and Dushanbe named after Lohuti, in the positions of a soloist, head of music, sought to compose music. In the dream of obtaining a composer’s education, he studied at the Uzbek opera Studio, which opened in 1935 under the Moscow Conservatory. In 1939, at the main course of the Moscow Conservatory, professor S.N.Vasilenko continued his studies in his class. With the onset of World War II, The Volunteer Army enlisted in the defense of the city of Moscow, and in 1942, having become deeply in check, he was treated back to Tashkent, engaged in creativity. Continuing his studies from 1946, in 1949 he successfully completed the Moscow Conservatory composition kulliyot.

As a student, he made his first creation as a talented poet.He started with the romance “O bulbul”, composed for lohuti’s poems, and the song “Buti nozaninam” (“my beauty”), and the Mashrab poem “Ishq Ochi”, a ballad he composed for Solo and Symphony Orchestra. On the 525th anniversary of Alisher Navoi, A.Vocal-symphonic poem “Alisher Navoiyga Qida” (1968) with Oripov, with the same poet, in 1975, he created the anthem “Epitaphia” for baghmshlab choir and Symphony Orchestra in memory of the war people.

M.Burkhanov was one of the first to adapt a complex issue by adapting Uzbek folk songs “Beautiful kizga”, “Yorlar”, Tajik folk songs “Sari Kohi high” and “Zarragul”, Karakalpak folk songs “Bibigul”, “Ayrılıq”, Uyghur folk song “Sayra”, Kazakh folk song “Dudaray”, Afghan folk song “Chashmi ink” in later years, Iranian folk songs-“Guli gandum” and “Damkul — damkul” for akapella Khori successfully coped. Unique talent M.Burhonov created the Opera “Alisher Navoi” on the 550th anniversary of Navoi’s birth in 1990.

M.Burkhanov created” Mavrigi “for the” Uzbek folk instrument orchestra”, various P’eses, suites for Symphony Orchestra, waltzes and P’eses for violin and cello ensemble. Composed a number of songs for the children’s choir. M.Burkhanov tabarruk welcomed his 80th birthday with new musical works. Jami dedicated to his friend Alisher Nawai a song to the poem “Shiru sugar”, for the children’s choir “Homeland mekhribon to us” (M.Mirzo word) song, “Bukharoi Sharif” (Rudaki poem) for the akapella choir. At the same time in the history of music of Uzbekistan M.Burkhanov was the first to create a five-part Requiem, “eternal memory”, for the soloists choir and Symphony Orchestra. It is dedicated to the memory of the Great children of the Uzbek people, Abdullah Kadiri, Abdurauf Fitrat, Abdulhamid Chulpan, Usman Nazir, Fayzulla Khojaev, the composer’s older brother Misbox, his uncles Maskhariddin, the perfect and Muammir Bur-honov, who were victims of the years of repression. The work was performed for the first time on May 14, 1996 at the Turkestan Palace in a concert program dedicated to the composer’s anniversary night.

Komgyuzitor Mutal Burkhanov was awarded the honorary titles of “Honored Artist of Uzbekistan”, “people’s artist of Uzbekistan”, medal “shukhrati of Labor”, honorary labels of the governments of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Belarus for his great services in the development of Uzbek Music Culture. In 1999, he received the Order of Merit from the hands of the first president of independent Uzbekistan Islam Karimov.Burhrnov was able to accept. M.The Jubilee concert dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the birth of burkhrnov was held at the Alisher Navoi opera and Ballet Theater on may 17, 2001. In this regard, he was awarded the order of honor of El yurt.
