The competition, one of the few in Russia and the world, is dedicated to the performance of exclusively Russian music: from its origins (folk songs, romances) to the performance of arias. The motivation for the competition was the upcoming 175th anniversary of the great bass Mikhail Koryakin. It was Koryakin, who once discovered the talent of Fyodor Shaliapin on the stage,
deliberately refusing to perform in his part in favour of the young performer.
The winners of the contest received not only the recognition of the music community, but also a cash prize of up to 500 thousand rubles.
More than 100 young artists (under 35 years old) participated in the face-to-face tours: vocalists and concertmasters from all over the world. In the third, final round for vocalists, only 12 performers passed.
Among the participants of the competition were representatives not only of Russian musical institutions, but also contestants from Mongolia, China, Uzbekistan, the Republic of Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan.
Under the leadership of Larisa Gergieva, People’s Young Performers of the Mariinsky Theatre, a jury was formed. Among the jury members were: Orlin Anastasov (Bulgaria), music director and producer, one of the youngest basses who stepped on the stage of the legendary “La Scala”; Shemchuk Lyudmila (Russia), ex-head of the Donetsk National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, who performed at the Bolshoi Theatre; Avaz Rajabov (Uzbekistan), professor of the State conservatory of Uzbekistan, famous performer of Russian romances, winner of the Grand Prix at competitions in the USA, Turkey, Russia, Armenia and other countries; Galina Gorchakova (Russia), “Best Singer of the Year” according to the Royal Philharmonic Society; Irina Soboleva (Russia), artistic director of the opera troupe of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre, associate professor of St. Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakov and others.
The winners were awarded on November 23 at the site of the St. Petersburg Academic Chapel.
One of the members of the jury was Avaz Akparovich Rajabov, a professor of the State Conservatory of Uzbekistan.
The first prize was awarded to the tenor – Alimov Donier (class of Associate Professor Olga Alexandrovna Alekseeva). We sincerely congratulate them on this victory and wish them new achievements!
