History of the department

The department of choral conducting has been actively promoting choral art since the first years of its existence. Acting as joint team strength of the department, using modern technologies, updated educational literature, aims to achieve a higher quality of training highly skilled choirmasters. Students of the choral conducting department gains extensive knowledge in the field of choral art, such as mastering the technique of conducting, practical skills, historical and theoretical material, modern means and techniques of arrangements, reading of scores, methodological principles of choral pedagogy. The graduates of the department successfully work with professional collectives, colleges, lyceums, children’s music schools and amateur groups.

At the initiative  of Honored worker of Art of Uzbekistan, professor M.Semenov in 1943 organized the Department choral conducting. At various times the following people worked with great devotion at the Department: V.Veselova, A.Pavlinova, Z.Levskaya, Chief leader of chorus of Opera and Ballet Theatre named after Sverdlov H.Priselkov, a graduate of the Leningrad Conservatory V.Knyazyatov . Later L.Shamshin was invited – Leader  of Chorus of Ballet Theatre (the first graduate of the department of conducting and chorus). E.Kenzer, I.Kalnitskaya, S.Vaselenkov, A.Vasilieva, E.Gudkova, E.Melik-Karamyan, R.Khublarov, V.Kaltman, E.Nechaev, M.Polonskiy.

In 1960-1970, the Department has replenished with its honored graduates-B.Umedzhanov, N.Kaziev, S.Shadmanov, E.Belova, D.Qurbanova, Sh.Ruziev, S.Makhmudova, I.Tverdokhlebova, N.Bakhretdinova, A.Khakimova, L.Djumaeva, N.Sharafieva, B.Shamakhmudova, I.Chernikova, T.Mamikonyan.

Teaching staff of the chair currently consists of condidate of art history Professor A.Khakimova, Professor L.Djumaeva, Professor N.Sharafieva, Professor N.Bakhretdinova, Professor B.Shamakhmudova, docents S.Kadirova, G.Mansurova Yu.Khusnitdinova, Senior Lectures T.Mamikonyan, M.Aripov, D.Matsinova, Lecturer  B.Shakhnazarova, O‘.Shokarimov, G.Avkhadievа, X.Orifjonov, as well as soloists of GABT named after A.Navoi R.Smirnikh, A.Mukhamedova.

The main role of teaching staff is educational and concert activity of the student choir of the State  Conservatory of Uzbekistan directed by Professor L.Djumaeva, docent S.Kadirova.

Over the years of independence student choir participated in a number of international projects (carried out with the assistance of Konrad Adenauer Foundation, embassies of Germany, France, USA, Israel, Russia). The preimeres staged as part of these projects play an important role in the cultural live of Tashkent.

The choir also performs pieces from Uzbek composers of the older and young generation: M.Burhanov, B.Umedzhanov, S.Babaev, S.Yudakov, M.Ashrafi, M.Bafoev, R.Abdullaev, H.Rahimov and many others.

Thus, the department of choral conducting is the center of all spheres in the choral life of the Republic, it actively influences the growth of choral singing, constantly seeks new forms and methods of popularization of polyphonic choral singing, determines the ways of further development of the choral art of Uzbekistan.
